Stay Safe, Stay Smart: Women’s Event Safety Tips

Before You Go

  • Share Your Plans: Tell a friend or family member where you’re going, who you’re with, and when you’ll be home.
  • Charge Your Phone: Fully charge it and consider bringing a portable charger.
  • Plan Your Ride: Arrange transportation ahead of time—know how you’re getting there and back safely.
  • Trust Your Gut: If something feels off before you even go, listen to that instinct.

At the Event

  • Stay Aware of Your Surroundings: Keep your head up, phone down, and notice exits, restrooms, and security personnel.
  • Hold Your Own Drink: Never leave it unattended or accept one from a stranger unless you watched it being poured.
  • Stick With Your Crew: Arrive together, check in throughout, and leave together.
  • Have a Safe Word: Create a discreet phrase to signal friends if you feel uncomfortable or need help.
  • Keep Personal Items Close: Use a crossbody bag that zips, and carry minimal cash and cards.
  • Limit What You Share Online: Post photos after you leave, not in real-time, to protect your location.

If Something Feels Wrong

  • Find Help Fast: Approach event staff, police, or security.
  • Trust Your Instincts: You don’t need to justify saying no or walking away.
  • Use Your Voice: Yell, make noise, and draw attention if you feel unsafe.
  • Call for Backup: Have emergency contacts on speed dial or use a safety app like Noonlight or bSafe.

Getting Home

  • Don’t Go Alone: Leave with trusted friends whenever possible.
  • Check the Car: Verify license plates and drivers before entering a rideshare or cab.
  • Lock In: Once you’re home, text someone that you’ve arrived safely.

 Empowerment Reminder

You have every right to set boundaries, walk away, and protect your peace.

Being cautious doesn’t make you paranoid—it makes you powerful.
